I am working on the UB Parking Bonanza with Alden Bradstock, Chris Gardner, and Dan Goldberg. Our project will be a top down driving game. So far we are currently working on the title screen and the overhead view of the map. All is coming along quite smoothly and we are all in good communication and we are all on the same page as to what we have to do to get our work done on time.
ReplyDeleteMe and my group are working on a project called Slump Expunger with Andy Stone, Amy Lynn, Brian White, and of course me named Lamar Peoples. G.Fawkes is an investment banker attempting to expunge the current financial slump the country is in. One feature my teammates have not already discussed is using a health bar for the player's life. Users will be able to jump or crouch in order to avoid bad environmental stuff. Every game needs a challenge right? Well, players should not only play to have fun but, use their eye-coordination skills to dodge bad objects from the environment and still build the economy up at the same time. Player health is a great way to challenge players on life and death in a serious game.

The project I am working on is called Finacial Fun. Financial Fun is basically a personal financing game that focuses on educating people about managing their finances. The way Financial Fun will do this is by having a series of choosable "characters" that players will be able to play and progress through the game with. Examples of some characters avaliable in Financial Fun will be a teacher, computer programmer, construction worker or an NFL player.
ReplyDeleteThe idea is to choose one of these characters and manage their fanancial situation responsibly without becoming debt ridden. The player will be presented with the financial situation any of the character would normally have in real life. The style that Financial Fun will use is an interface based game similar to that of Carmen Sandiego.
The project I am working on is called Custom Made: Economic Decision. The premise behind the game or simulation is to illustrate a general understanding of core components necessary to build a custom made pc; a fairly simple concept to those of us who build computers, but not to most people.
ReplyDeleteThe socialized component to be incorporated will be where the user can choose parts with different monetary values. The goal being to build a pc comparable to a pre-determined model of some known retailer. In effect the user should see the financial saving potential to building a custom pc, thus the Economic Decision.

As mentioned above, I will be working on the Slump Expunger. My interest in the game is the hybrid game play that utilizes both the active reaction time decisions as popularized by Shigeru Miyamoto's platformer games and the manipulation of complex systems as popularized by Will Wright.
ReplyDeleteAt first glance, the core game play mechanics consist of traveling the distance of the level while dealing with the enemy and event spawns that block the path in a manner not unlike Super Mario Brothers. Repeated play will show the spawns and events are generated procedurally based upon the decisions of the player, which makes each gaming experience unique to the player. Furthermore, this is not simply used as a gimmick to improve replay value, or to shoehorn in more content than was originally designed; this mechanic is utilized to allow players to experiment with different theories and strategies for the best way to navigate through the recession.
The game draws it's true strength from the ability to entice players to test their theories and understand why certain measures could or could not fix the current economically situation. Although a vastly simplified representation of the current market, Slump Expunger will capture players with the immediate rewards of successful platformer game play, but keep them returning to master the more subtle and complex workings of the game, all the while instilling a basic understanding of both the complex nature of the economic slump, and the complexity of the solution that will expunge it.
I'm working on The Market with Jack Rappazzo and Alex Miller. A feature I'm looking forward to implementing is the ability for the broker you pick to invest your money to really be running a ponzi scheme or something that just screws the player over. It makes the player become more strategic and gets them to diversify and I think the possibility of collapse at any moment for the player could be exciting so long as it doesn't get frustrating.
ReplyDeleteThe project I'm working on is the Political base game. My other team mates include Mark Lee, John Sparks, and Mike Woodward. The game revolves around a political figure appealing to the voter base. A major feature of game is to track and display how decisions affect the general population. To that end we're making a series of gauges that measure different aspects of how well the player is performing. I'm mapping out how each decision the player makes will affect the different gauges. It's interesting because ultimately every decision a player makes will make someone unhappy. This makes finding a happy medium difficult.
ReplyDeleteMy group is working on UB Parking Bonanza with Alden Bradstock, Eric Hall, and Dan Goldberg. In our game user will be able to enter the UB parking garages and try to use their card and find a place to park. If they are unable to enter the garage they will have to drive to another garage and try to get in before time runs out and you miss class.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jonathon Sparks, and I am part of Team Xtreme's Political Simulator, working alongside Michael Woodward, Mark Lee, and Chris Tom. I'm really happy about the fact that with this project, we are attempting to find ways to educate people about how real political decisions, not promises, actually impact the global system. Though we probably won't be able to do everything, I feel like some of the ideas discussed will be largly beneficial even those with limited understanding of the political system, without overwhelming them with too much information.
ReplyDeleteThe project that me and my partner Lance Harrington are working on is called Under the Limit. Its basically a flash game that shows the potiental dangers of driving recklessly. We decided to go with a top down view since its a driving game. Something like how the old grand theft auto games use to be. I think what I'm most happy about is being able to educate people about a serious situation but still make it fun.
ReplyDeleteI am working on the game Under the Limit with Antonio. Its pretty much a game that tries to either teach you traffic laws or better your understanding of them. I'm probably most happy with the fact that the game will have many obstacles that will get in your way. This will be fun for me to program and give me a challenge at the same time.

ReplyDeleteMy name is James Crimmins and the game I am working on is called Text Driving: Messenger of Death. The intended purpose of this game is to demonstrate the hazzards of driving and texting at the same time. I am hoping to show how everyday driving demands more focus than people think and provide an idea of what happens when you lose that focus or use it for something else.
ReplyDeleteJack and I are working on a game called the Market. It is a simulation of stock market exchanges. I'm excited to take a serious real world issue such as market management and financial simulations. I think overall I'm curious to see how we are able to develop the game and make the connection to our real world issue.

I'm with Eric Hall, Dan Goldberg and Chris Gardner for the Parking Bonanza driving game. So far there isn't a whole lot of a product to show, but the programming and basic map layout are currently in the works. I am very impressed with the programming, because Chris is doing things that I would have never been able to do on my own in Flash. I'm pretty sure Dan and Eric can say something similar.
ReplyDeleteYo Marquel Lee here,
ReplyDeleteFor Final project I will be working with a group composed of Johnathan, Michael, Chris, as well as myself. Our Project is a serious game based on politics(though at the moment I am unsure as to whether we came up with an actual name yet......yeah)
One feature of this project I'm particularly proud of is that our game will help people better understand some of the ways politicians work. I am also kind of proud the art direction we are going in.
I am working with Brian White, Amy Lynn, and Lamar Peoples on a project called Slump Expunger. The idea of the game is to help eliminate the deficit by investing money in a balanced way evening out different areas. Besides what my teammates have already said about the interesting factors of the game, I'm also interested in the side-scrolling aspects of the game and the balancing funds that the player has to decide to contribute to. Playtesting will be a real challenge and interesting in finding a comfortable balance of the areas that the player has to contribute to.

ReplyDeleteHuh, I seem to be having a bit of trouble actually getting blogger to post my comment. :/
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I'm a part of the Parking Bonanza project with Eric Hall, Chris Gardner, and Alden Bradstock. I can't say that I have a favorite feature as much as I love the game concept itself. I am a big fan of irony, yet I've never had a chance to work on a project that has been a parodic or critical of a real-world issue. The fact that the issue just happens to be UB's parking crisis makes it that much more enjoyable, since it is something we students (presumable faculty, as well) struggle with on a daily basis. Let the comedy commense!
I'm working on Euthanasia: The Card Game with Rob. Since we're working in non-electronic media, I'm excited about being able to work on the rules and mechanics of the game. I think the gameplay can potentially be much more complex because we only have to think up the rules, rather than coding them into a pre-existing system. I've played a pretty good variety of trading card games, so it'll be fun to mix and match rules and features that I like in various games and incorporate them into our own.

ReplyDeleteMy team is working on the game called Public Vote. My teammates are Jonathon Sparks, Marquel Lee, and Chris Tom. I am pretty enthused about how the game is going to be programmed mainly because I am going to be programming it.
